Dozens of Moroccan citizens gathered in a protest in front of the Spanish Consulate in Casablanca, on Monday morning, August 19, to denounce the delay in obtaining travel visa appointments.
The protesters, who came from different cities in the Kingdom, chanted angry slogans such as “No to the monopoly of visa appointments by brokers,” “No to delaying visa appointments,” and called for putting an end to the activities of the brokers’ network that monopolizes appointments and sells them at exorbitant prices.
The protesters, including men and women carrying national and Spanish flags, stressed that the website designated by the company responsible for managing the process of booking visa appointments is inaccessible once the appointments are announced, due to brokers taking over the booking appointments.
They pointed out that many of them find it difficult to gather with their families, as it is difficult for them to obtain appointments due to brokers, while they denounced the behavior of the company that manages the appointment process and its lack of intervention in this matter.
Accordingly, the protesters demanded that the Spanish authorities, through their consulate, intervene to control this process and block the brokers who raised the reservation prices to 30 thousand dirhams.
It is worth noting that this phenomenon is not limited to the “visa” appointments for Spain, but rather many of those wishing to travel, obtain family reunification, or continue their studies in several European countries suffer from the absence of these appointments due to them being acquired by brokers who sell them at exorbitant prices.
Given this situation, those wishing to obtain appointments were obliged to contact brokers directly and ask them to provide an appointment instead of the responsible company taking on this task, which enabled them to greatly enrich themselves from this process.
