Canal + is rebroadcasting this Monday, August 19, 2024 from 9:15 p.m. the mini-series event The Pale Horse based on Agatha Christie. Adapted from a novel by the queen of crime, this fiction could well make you want to travel through the English countryside… and take a trip to the charming village of Much Deeping. But does it really exist?
Want to dive into the heart of a dark intrigue and shiver (a little)? This Monday, August 19, 2024 from 9:15 p.m., Canal + is rebroadcasting the mini-series event The Pale Horse based on Agatha Christie! Two 60-minute episodes, freely adapted from one of the novels by the most widely read novelist in the world: Agatha Christie! Carried by a prestigious cast (Rufus Sewell, Kaya Scodelario, Sean Pertwee, etc.) and a polished atmosphere, this is a fiction that has all the assets to satisfy viewers looking for something new. And if you haven’t read the original novel, you might ask yourself the following question: does the atypical little village of Much Deeping (in which witches live…) really exist? We have the answer!
The Pale Horse by Agatha Christie: Is the small British village in the series real?
You might as well not dream too much about one day dropping off your bags for a weekend (or more) in this charming little village… because it doesn’t exist! Entirely imagined by its author, Much Deeping does not appear on any map of the United Kingdom. This is a free invention by Agatha Christie for her novel. But then where were the scenes, which take place in this small town, filmed? They were in fact filmed in the county of Gloucestershire, located just above Bristol, well to the west of London. The small villages of Stroud and Bisley served as natural settings for the production teams. And concerning the small inn called The Pale Horse in the fiction, one of the only hotels in Bisley, The Bear Inn, was the setting for the filming of several scenes from the mini-series. Disappointment? Also, be aware that, while most of the plot takes place in London in the fiction, almost all of the filming took place in Bristol, where the 1960s settings of the British capital were recreated.
The Pale Horse by Agatha Christie: What is the Canal + series about?
London, 1961. Despite a successful life, Mark Easterbrook is still consumed by grief since the mysterious death of his first wife. But when the authorities warn him that his name appears on a list hidden in the shoe of a murdered woman, everything changes… He decides to investigate this case himself, which he does not understand. His steps will lead him to a small village called Much Deeping, where his wife had gone the very day she died!
