It is official flag day all over Norway to mark the crown princess’s birthday – an occasion that is marked automatically in many people’s mobile phone calendars.
– The Crown Princess’s birthday is marked privately, communications adviser Sara Svanemyr at the Royal Court tells NTB.
The royals’ birthdays are usually only celebrated privately. Admittedly, that was not the case last year, when both Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon hit the big drum with a double 50th anniversary, with a grand garden party at the Palace.
Ongoing criminal case
Earlier this month, Mette-Marit was in Paris together with Crown Prince Haakon to cheer on the Norwegian athletes in the Olympics. However, the trip was somewhat postponed after her son, Marius Borg Høiby, was charged with bodily harm and damage after a violent incident at Frogner.
Høiby has pleaded guilty in the case and apologized in a statement through the media last week. He will be questioned by the police this week.
– It is a serious matter when the police are involved as they are. At the same time, it is not right for me to go into the matter now, I think, said the crown prince when he met the press in Paris.
– We are of course concerned that all parties in the case are well taken care of, and then we can take one day at a time, said the crown prince.
Comeback on the Literature Train
After a five-year hiatus, this summer it was time again for the Crown Princess to return on the Literature Train, which carries, among other things, a library wagon containing parts of the Crown Princess’ private book collection.
This year’s trip went along the Røros Railway with stops in Elverum, Alvdal and Røros. VG met the crown princess on the train, where she talked about the new phase in her life after Princess Ingrid Alexandra moved away from home and Prince Sverre Magnus finished high school.
– We notice that we have much more free time, much more time to do other things. We have started doing things we did when we were very young: Go to the cinema, go to exhibitions, have lunch in the city, she told VG.
