Wout van Aert wins his first Vuelta a España! The Belgian finished third in Saturday’s time trial, second after arriving in Urum yesterday and third in the sprint race between Lusa and Castel Branco (Portugal) on Monday, 19 August. Win the stage. Visma-Lease a Bike rider shows off his power to beat Aussies Caden Groves (Second stage winner Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Spanish player Jon Aberasturi (Euskaltel-Euskadi).
With his first career win at the Vuelta a España, the 29-year-old took the red jersey at the end of the second stage and maintained his lead in the overall classification. Spain’s Luis Ángel Maté successfully crossed the two hurdles of the day with three compatriots 189 kilometers from the finish line, and finally wore the polka dot jersey at the finish line.
