THE debut of Indonesian women’s singles badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung paid off by successfully winning the women’s singles bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Gregoria hopes that regeneration in the women’s singles sector will receive more attention for higher achievements.
Gregoria won the bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics after her opponent, Carolina Marin of Spain, was injured and decided to withdraw. The bronze medal from the world’s most prestigious quadrennial sporting event is also a sweet gift for her who will celebrate her 25th birthday on August 11, 2024.
“After some time, the preparation was also good, I think in the few weeks before the match I felt confident because the preparation training was quite good and that made me confident to compete in the Olympics,” said Gregoria.
The girl born in Wonogiri, Central Java, who started her career with PB Mutiara Cardinal Bandung, West Java, hopes that the women’s singles sector will receive more attention to improve better achievements.
“I am sure there will be many who stand out in women’s singles. I feel like I am the oldest in this sector. I hope for good regeneration because so far the trend in women’s singles has been very good and that makes me proud,” she hoped.
The competition in the women’s singles, she continued, was very tight.
