Los Angeles (USA), Aug 16 (EFE).- Chiquis Rivera opens the doors to her privacy in ‘Chiquis sin Filtro’, a new “reality show” in which she explores her role as an audiovisual producer, while exposing herself “without makeup” to her fans.
“I want to show them who I am and not let people rely on what they have heard about me,” he said in an interview with EFE.
Rivera has been in music for a decade, but having been born into one of the most representative families of Mexican music has taken the spotlight away from his talent as a singer and has sometimes been overshadowed by rumors and scandals.
“I will always be Jenni Rivera’s daughter, it is a great pride for me, but I have worked hard to get to this point,” says the 39-year-old singer, who this Friday premieres the first two episodes of her reality show on the streaming platform Vix.
Rivera is no stranger to reality TV. The eldest daughter of the Diva de la Banda has participated in productions that followed her life and that of her family, such as ‘I Love Jenni’ (2011) or ‘The Riveras’ (2016).
The difference in this project, she says, is that ‘Chiquis sin Filtro’ is a “kind of docureality” that follows her more intimately in personal and professional aspects of her life, and is spoken mostly in Spanish, “a great challenge” for the singer who was born in Long Beach, California, USA, in 1985.
“My goal this year was to show them who I am, to give them the opportunity to get to know me as a woman,” says Rivera about the project that marks the debut of her production company Busy Bee Productions.
Throughout the series, viewers will be able to see the singer preparing for her wedding with Emilio Sánchez, whom she married last June, her relationship with her friends, the process of facing the last stage her mother stepped on before the fateful accident that ended her life, and even the legal disputes against her grandfather and her uncle.
“I want to talk about everything I’m going through right now. The things I’m healing and want to heal,” she explains.
Vulnerable and hardworking
Rivera takes her reality show one step further by opening up about one of the most difficult topics she has ever faced, such as the sexual abuse she experienced at the hands of her father, and confesses that talking about it again was “the most difficult part” of this project.
“God has given me this opportunity to have this platform and it’s to change lives and the only way I’m going to do that is by being very transparent and honest, showing myself vulnerable,” she says.
She also openly addresses the subject of her sexuality and says that she was careful not to do so in a “vulgar” way: “It is important to talk about these issues, and for women to accept all aspects of themselves, including the sexual one,” she says.
Rivera is currently preparing a “deluxe” version of her album ‘Diamantes’, which she released in May, and is already thinking about the concept for her next album.
With her production company, she has three more projects in development: One is a romance film, another is a “reality show” about women in regional Mexican music, and another is a series “of dates to find love,” she says.
Rivera is also participating as a judge on the Mexican program ‘La Academia 2024’, in which she gives her comments to emerging singers who aspire to make a place for themselves in the industry, with whom she has been able to empathize.
“I know what it feels like to be judged, so from the moment I came in I said ‘I have to be honest’, it’s a responsibility, because I want to make a change in their lives,” she says.
‘Chiquis sin Filtro’ premieres its first two episodes on August 16, and will show two new ones every Friday.
