Pop Icon Katy Perry (39, “Teenage Dream”) Expands Her Awards Showcase: The music sensation is set to receive the “Video Visionary Award” at the MTV Video Music Awards in September. The honor, which honors music video pioneer Michael Jackson, has been presented to artists including Shakira, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, Pink, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Madonna in the past.

MTV hailed Perry in a press release as one of the most accomplished female musicians in history and applauded her charitable work. The Golden State native, who has long been a top pop music earner, serves as a spokesperson for UNICEF. Perry is scheduled to perform live at the ceremony, which is set for September 11. MTV also announced performances by artists including Camila Cabello, Sabrina Carpenter and GloRilla.

Sensation Pop Taylor Swift holds the most nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, with ten nominations in categories including Video, Artist and Song of the Year. His track “Anti-Hero” from the album “Midnights” earned him the most nominations, thanks to a collaboration with rapper Post Malone on the track. Post Malone also earned nine nominations thanks to his collaboration with country star Morgan Wallen on “I Had Some Help.”

Ariana Grande (“We Can’t Be Friends”), Sabrina Carpenter (“Skin”), and Eminem (“Godzilla”) each earned six nominations, followed by SZA and Megan Thee Stallion with five nominations each.

The awards ceremony will take place in New York City and has been an annual event since 1984. Fans can vote online for their favorite entries. The trophies feature an astronaut holding an MTV banner.
