Washington – The US Department of Defense “Pentagon” stated on Friday that it is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East, and that it continues to focus on reducing tensions in the region.
Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh said in a press statement that the United States is prepared to defend Israel and American forces in the event of an escalation in the region.
The US spokeswoman confirmed that the United States has strengthened its military presence in the region.
She explained: “In light of the increasing regional tensions, we continue to focus on reducing tensions in the region while taking a position of deterrence and defending Israel.”
She pointed out that they will continue to closely monitor the situation in the Middle East.
Singh stressed that “if Israel is attacked, we will definitely come to its defense.”
She explained that the United States’ strengthening of its military presence in the region comes “with the aim of deterrence and to send a message that it does not want regional tension,” adding that they will continue their efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.
Earlier, the Pentagon announced that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered the dispatch of a guided-missile submarine to the Middle East, and the acceleration of the arrival of an aircraft carrier strike group to the region, as part of US efforts to deter Iran and its proxies amid escalating regional tensions.
This comes as Israel has been anticipating for days retaliatory responses from Iran and the Lebanese and Palestinian factions over the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, and the leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut the day before.
