Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Budget Committee of the Chamber of Deputies called the Ministers of Economy (MEF) and Industry and Commerce (MIC), and the Director of Tax Revenue (DNIT) to analyze two draft amendments to laws on biofuels.
Following analysis with the authorities, a negative opinion was issued for both projects that seek to modify articles of Law 2748/2005 “On the promotion of biofuels”, on the subjects benefiting from tax measures, and Law 5,444/2015 “On the promotion of consumption of absolute alcohol and fuel alcohol”, on the mixture of ethanol and the percentage of acquisition of vehicles that use Flex Fuel by the State.
The MEF minister, Carlos Fernández, proposed the creation of a Working Group that includes the productive sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the Agricultural Credit Facility. The objective of this group would be to carry out a more detailed analysis of the situation of small producers of corn and sugar cane, sectors that the bills were intended to benefit.
Deputy Cristina Villalba, chair of the committee, emphasized the significant budgetary impact that these initiatives would represent, pointing out that their implementation would require a substantial renewal of the vehicle fleet in various ministries of the Executive Branch.
