Asuncion, IP Agency.- On Tuesday, the 13th, a Mexican citizen identified as Gustavo Aaron Mejía García, 27 years old, originally from Toluca, was arrested at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. He left Mexico City with a stopover in Panama and final destination, Paraguay, reported the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad).
The arrest was carried out through a coordinated task between Special Agents of the Senad, personnel from the National Directorate of Tax Revenue (DNIT) and prosecutor María Irene Álvarez. At the time of verification, the Mexican identified himself as a deacon in training to become a priest and that he had come for tourism purposes.
Three bottles of supposed tequila and four bottles of supposed shampoo were found inside his suitcase. The contents of these bottles were analyzed using the TruNarc system, giving positive results for amphetamines and methamphetamines, respectively.
The same will be analyzed with greater precision in the Specialized Forensic Laboratory of Senad. The gross weight of the seized items was 9 kilos 354 grams, valued at at least USD 300 thousand.
The detainee and the evidence were sent to the Senad Operations Base. The line of investigation will continue around possible criminal cartels that intend to establish new routes and markets through Paraguay, the institution said.
