Gladiators of Anzoátegui and Marinos de Oriente will clash this Thursday at the Luis Ramos gymnasium on the Barcelona-Puerto La Cruz axis, in what will be the start of the Super Round of the 2024 Professional Basketball Super League (SPB) postseason.
The challenge generates high expectations among fans of the high altitude sport in the Anzoategui state. La Armadura, the current champion of the circuit, and Acorazado Oriental, which until the 2023 harvest represented this state, where it lived years of glory, will be face to face.
Both quintets come into the match with different realities. Ronald Guillén’s team maintained their overwhelming pace and swept aside Héroes de Falcón in the Intergroup Phase to be the first to inscribe their name in the round robin.
On the other hand, the naval team went to seven games in the tie against Pioneros del Ávila, which represents greater physical wear and tear. However, the fact of coming back from a tie in which they were down 1-3 can be an important morale boost to start off on the right foot in the stage prior to the final.
Road to the final
It is worth remembering that there are five teams in the Super Round and they will all compete against each other to define the two finalists of the tournament. In addition to Gladiadores and Marinos, Trotamundos de Carabobo, Guaiqueríes de Margarita and Cocodrilos de Caracas also qualified.
The first day will feature the eastern clash and the duel between the Saurian team against Expreso Azul at the United Nations Park (PNU) in Caracas. Both are scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
There will be 10 rounds in total, with eight matches for each team, and a team will be bye-bye on each round. According to the SPB calendar, the semi-final phase should end on September 2, with the final to decide the champion of this season starting a few days later.
