Health presents the first national plan for comprehensive care for ostomy patients

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare presented the First National Plan for Comprehensive Care for Ostomized Patients, which responds to Law No. 4,143/10. The initiative seeks to guarantee quality and multidisciplinary care for people living with ostomy and constitutes an example of State policies, said Minister María Teresa Barán.

The launch took place during an event chaired by the head of the health portfolio and the deputy ministers Santiago García and José Ortellado, who highlighted the importance of the coordinated effort to strengthen care in health facilities.

Minister Barán stressed that this plan is an example of State policies that transcend administrations, ensuring that the focus on continuous improvement of the health system is maintained.

In this regard, he said that they want to demonstrate that they are working with real State policies and this plan is essential to provide comprehensive care that includes not only the physical aspect, but also psychological support for patients, he said.

An ostomy patient is one who has undergone an ostomy, an operation in which a hole is made in the abdomen to remove the digestive or urinary tract, and which allows the passage of waste into containers known as collection bags.

The plan, which will be implemented in all health services in the country, includes the use of two other documents, which include the Guide to Procedures and Care for the Comprehensive Approach to the Adult Ostomy Patient, and the Single Registration Form, with the aim of standardizing treatments and improving patient monitoring.

To reinforce the objectives of the plan, the “Single Registration Form for Ostomy Patients” was presented, which will allow for a more precise registration of patients, facilitating the planning of the acquisition of supplies and the monitoring of the specific needs of each person.

This comprehensive approach is designed to ensure that patients receive comprehensive care, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation, the Ministry of Public Health said.
