It was a “pilgrimage to History” concert that captivated the audience. The great Stavros Xarchakos, together with Dimitris Bassis, Iro Saia and his orchestra, traveled on a dreamlike musical journey of sounds and emotions to those who from early Sunday evening flooded the venue at the Panhellenic Iroos of the National Palygenesis of Agonists 1821 in Agia Lavra.
The concert of Stavros Xarhakos, the top event of the “Cultural Summer 2024” of the Municipality of Kalavryta, captivated hundreds of spectators from all over the Municipality of Kalavryta as well as from other regions of Western Greece who came to Iroos to experience the unique experience of a top artistic event in a historic, imposing and evocative space.
The great music composer “guided” the audience to some of the most timeless songs of the Greek pentagram in the last six decades, songs and melodies that bear his personal and recognizable stamp. While at the end of the concert, the audience stood and applauded the composer for a long time, as a sign of respect and recognition for his multidimensional work.
“WE BOW TO KALAVRYTA”
He himself was moved by the reception and emphasized that “the emotion of all of us was very great when we arrived in Kalavryta. Why? Because there are some of us who luckily still have memory. And they respect their history. This place, then, is the memory and history of this country. And we all have to bow down when we set foot in Kalavryta.”
He then thanked the Mayor of Kalavryta and President of the Regional Union of Municipalities of Western Greece Thanasis Papadopoulos for the invitation and the audience for the welcome he and his colleagues received.
Earlier, the Mayor of Kalavryton welcoming Stavros Xarchakos had pointed out that “Xarhakos glorifies man with his music. He glorifies Freedom with his work. He reminds us – every time the sound of one of his songs reaches our ears or passes our lips – that this country and this people, no matter what hardships they go through, are not going to bend.”
And he added that “every song of Xarhakos is also a statement. A statement that enlivens, calms, revives, fills the listener with strength and – most importantly – works redemptively and optimistically even in our most difficult and darkest moment. It is a great honor for us the presence of Stavros Xarchakos tonight in Agia Lavra, in a concert that one would say is a pilgrimage in History”.
It should be noted that exactly one month ago Stavros Xarchakos was awarded by the President of the Republic the decoration of the Senior Brigadier of the Order of Honor as the highest recognition of the Greek State for his work. In that ceremony at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic stood in a special place.
In the dynamic and essential relationship of deep communication between the composer and his audience. “And when we talk about Xarchakos, his audience is every Greek woman and every Greek inside or outside Greece, it is every citizen of the world who can understand and become part of this journey of sounds and emotions that his notes give birth to,” said the Mayor Kalavryton.
THE MARTIN FOUNDATION
The concert was organized by the Municipality of Kalavrita with the kind sponsorship and support of AMKE Cultural and Social Welfare Project “Aegea”.
Thus, Mr. Papadopoulos especially thanked the Athanasios and Marina Martinou Charitable Foundation and the Non-Profit Society of Cultural and Charitable Project “Aegea” for their support but also for “in general for their long-term contribution to the place, for their undiminished interest and for their contribution to the implementation of leading projects and actions of a cultural and social nature throughout the Municipality of Kalavryta”.
