A horror finally solved? A 55-year-old woman was arrested in early August 2024 in North Carolina, USA. According to information from American media ABC News she was charged with first-degree murder after she was suspected of abandoning her baby in a dumpster in Riverside, California, 37 years ago.
The newborn was found dead in October 1987 by a man who was looking for recyclable materials in a dumpster behind a business. According to the police quoted by our colleagues, the little girl was abandoned only a few hours after her birth. Her death was immediately classified as a homicide.
The father would be innocent
An investigation was launched but it yielded no answers for years. But in 2020, police declared the case reopened. Using new DNA technology, investigators were able to identify the previously unknown baby. Genealogical research then led authorities to potential parents, she says. ABC News.

Police have finally identified the baby’s mother, who was 19 when the infant was found dead. The suspect’s motive has not yet been determined. “Detectives have no reason to believe the baby’s father has any criminal responsibility in the murder.”added the police, quoted by the American media.
