PALESTINIAN resistance group Hamas on Sunday (11/8) called on the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold an emergency meeting regarding the genocide being carried out by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas stressed the need to take effective decisions that can stop the ongoing aggression and genocide against their people in the Gaza Strip and sever political, commercial or normalization ties with the Zionist occupation.
Hamas also called for the implementation of the decisions made at the joint Arab and Islamic summit held in Riyadh on November 11 last year to end the blockade and send aid and humanitarian assistance to the besieged people in the Gaza Strip.
In addition, Hamas called on the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session and make decisions that force the occupation (Israel) to stop its aggression and genocide and stop its flagrant violations of laws and agreements that have become an effective recipe for destabilizing regional and international peace and security.
Israel, which has ignored UN Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire, has faced international condemnation amid ongoing brutal attacks on Gaza since a Hamas offensive on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli offensive has killed nearly 39,800 people, mostly women and children, and injured more than 92,000 others, according to local health authorities.
More than 10 months after Israel’s offensive, much of Gaza lies in ruins amid a blockade that has crippled access to food, clean water and medicine.
Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which ordered an immediate halt to military operations in the southern city of Rafah. More than 1 million Palestinians had sought refuge from the war before the city was invaded on May 6. (Ant/Z-2)
