A team of experts will reach the Wayanad landslide area today to conduct inspections. A five-member team appointed by the National Disaster Management Authority will carry out inspections in Smarimatam, Mundakai, Churalmala and Atamara districts. The working team will also go to the township locations determined by the government to check whether the affected areas are suitable for habitation. The military has informed that the search will continue today.
An expert committee has also been set up to arrange temporary rehabilitation for people currently living in the camps. For this purpose, the Ministry of Local Self-Government has identified 41 buildings and the Ministry of Public Works has identified 24 buildings. The 65 buildings are already available. In addition to this, 34 repaired and usable buildings have been identified for temporary restoration. Various local bodies in the area have also identified 286 houses available for rent.
But it has been decided to look for rental houses in six local government bodies, namely Meppadi, Moopainad, Vythiri, Kalpatta, Ambalavayal and Muttil. The committee will inspect whether the buildings found are suitable for habitation and whether they have the necessary household appliances.
