“Even in August when there is no news, the methods to cover up the wiretapping scandal, once again, make our country look bad internationally”, underlines SYRIZA-PS in a statement.
“A few months after the condemnation of Greece by the European Parliament for the brutal injury of the Rule of Law, the online newspaper Politico emphasizes in its extensive report (7.08.24) that “Greece is leaving intelligence agencies unchecked for Predatorgate”. Against the backdrop of the Supreme Court’s decision, which will go down in history as a day of shame for our country, Politico notes critically that “two years later, all government actors are innocent, with the result that the Supreme Court’s decision raises again questions about the independence of the Greek Judiciary”, points out SYRIZA-PS and comments:
“A non-Greek Media writes, that is, the obvious. Obviously not for SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance or the other parties, which allegedly do not respect the separation of powers. But for a well-known European electronic newspaper. With particular reference, in fact, to the resignations of Dimitriadis and Kontoleon, both of whom were called to testify but not as suspects. Regarding Dimitriadis, Politico adds that his residence was never searched, although it was initially requested by the judicial authorities.
“Perhaps the authoritative website does not know that a leading minister of the Mitsotakis government demanded from the floor of the Parliament that we apologize to the Prime Minister’s nephew.
The publication also refers to the export of the Predator “to Sudan and Madagascar by the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs” which “never announced the results” of the internal investigation.
For any normal state, today would be another day of shame. Another stain on Democracy. Possibly, even now, a day of resignations of those involved in the scandal and its indomitable “hood”, he emphasizes and concludes:
“For the Mitsotakis government and the media system, they are just looking for a little more mud against Stefanos Kasselakis, even if the agenda changes.
Politico, as well as some other international and a few domestic media, insist on doing their job so that the wiretapping scandal – the Mitsotakis and Dimitriadis scandal – does not remain on the record.
We repeat: investigative journalism will continue the revelations and an independent Judiciary, with another democratic government, will hold those responsible to account.”
Is Adonis Georgiadis being blackmailed, by whom and why?
“According to Reporters United, Adonis Georgiadis was the victim of an attempted hacking of his mobile phone eleven times in the year 2021, when he was Minister of Development. Mr. Georgiadis was informed by the Communications Privacy Authority, but curiously, no legal action was ever taken,” SYRIZA-PS emphasizes in a statement and continues:
“The questions are reasonable:
• Why did Adonis Georgiadis not take any legal action against those who watched him? Holding a high public office, if he did not feel he should protect himself, should he not at least protect his office?
• Being the target of wiretapping himself, why was he so quick to declare that there was no scandal? Did he give “pardon” to some? And if, why?
• How is his recent statement that “we must apologize to Grigoris Dimitriadis” who had set up a monitoring center of the EYP with common goals with the Predator inside the Megaro Maximos, connected to his surveillance?
• Finally, why does he think he was targeted so many times with the Predator? Did it have anything to do with his “project” at the Ministry of Development? Those who wanted him under surveillance, did they want to know or confirm / verify something?’
“The questions are many and inevitably lead to the central political question: is Adonis Georgiadis being blackmailed, by whom and why?” Is his long-term participation in the Mitsotakis governments related or not to his… good conduct and his non-appeal to the Justice Department?” concludes the announcement of SYRIZA-PS.
