Paolo Sottocorona, meteorologist for La7, gives an update on the weather, outlining the general picture of the situation: “Intense heatwave involving Italy that will last for the entire week of Ferragosto. The scorching air will bring high temperatures and atmospheric stability, preventing the formation of thunderstorms, except for a few isolated cases. The strengthening of the subtropical promontory at high altitude, responsible for all this, will reach its most intense phase between Monday and Tuesday. No strong disturbances in sight for now, all in transit beyond the Alps”.

And here is the weather forecast day by day: “Today, Sunday 11 August, sunny day in the north, but in the afternoon some clouds could arrive on the Alps and Prealps, some really isolated rain and in any case more likely, especially on the western reliefs. In the center lots of sun with some clouds in the afternoon on the Apennines, but no significant rain. Mostly sunny in the south, some clouds here too in the afternoon on the reliefs, but it is unlikely that they will bring any phenomena. As for temperatures, the situation does not show signs of changing. In the north we expect values ​​of 34-38 degrees, up to peaks of 39-40 degrees in the center south. The forecast for Monday 12 August shows that the only new thing in the north is represented by an increase in the possibility in the afternoon of showers or thunderstorms on the northwest reliefs, locally spilling over towards the neighboring plains. For the rest, clear, or partly cloudy. In the center-south, lots of sun, some clouds during the day on the Apennines and some veiling. As for temperatures, we should have reached the maximum values ​​in general, but the heat will still increase. The maximums will also increase slightly in some internal areas of the southern peninsula. For the rest, we do not expect significant variations”.

Here is finally the trend for Tuesday 13 August: “In the north, mostly clear day, few clouds, at most in the afternoon local showers could form, however on the Alps. In the center good weather, but in the afternoon local thunderstorms could develop here too on the Apennines, between Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo. In the south sunny and some more clouds in the afternoon in the mountains. On the temperatures some local decrease, especially in the Po Valley and Tuscany, especially on the minimum values”.
