Revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s 35th birth anniversary is being celebrated today. After Ghalib and Iqbal, Faiz Ahmad Faiz was the greatest poet of Urdu. His poetry still fills hearts with courage and love.

Faiz Ahmed Faiz is such a high-level name of Urdu poetry whose resonance is heard in most countries of the world and those who read and understand Urdu poetry all over the world are convinced of the artistic greatness of Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

To pay homage to Faiz, Faiz Aman Mela was organized from November 15th to 17th at Al Hamra Theater in Lahore, in which his fans from all over the world participated and paid homage in their own way. On this occasion, Faiz’s speech, his revolutionary ideas, sophisticated character and high taste were appreciated. Poetry sessions writers spoke on various topics while progressive groups participated in their own style.

Faiz Ahmad Faiz was born on February 13, 1911 in Sialkot and obtained Masters degrees in Arabic and English literature, after which Faiz became a teacher in several colleges and also served in the Pakistan Army. Apart from Urdu and Punjabi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz was also proficient in English, Arabic, Persian and Russian languages. In 1936 he joined the progressive movement and was elected the first general secretary of the movement.

Faiz and Iqbal were from the same city, meaning both belonged to Sialkot. The color of the poetry of both was also the same, but the styles of both were different. Iqbal Bano, Mehdi Hasan, Tina Sani, Noor Jahan and other singers sang Faiz’s lyrics well and touched the heights of fame.

Faiz was a supporter of left-wing ideologies and that is the reason why he faced various difficulties during the dictatorial period. Faiz was fluent in English, Urdu, Arabic, Russian and Persian languages. Among his important works, Naqsh Frayadi, Dast Saba, Zandan Nama are worth mentioning.

He also received various awards in recognition of his literary services, including Nigar Awards (1953), Namur Aman Inam (1963), Human Rights Commission Aman Inam, Nishan Imtiaz (1990) and many more. In recognition of his literary services, the Government of Pakistan has named the year 2012 as Faiz Ahmed Faiz.
