Asuncion, IP Agency.- The first Museum of Economics in Paraguay will be inaugurated this Thursday in the main building of the former Ministry of Finance, now the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). The Palacio Alegre, located on Chile and Palma streets, in downtown Asunción, will host national authorities and special guests for the official opening ceremony.
The institution explains that this innovative initiative was designed to educate the population on economic aspects in an accessible and understandable way.
The Museum, with a historical and educational focus, seeks to become a benchmark for economic knowledge with contemporary museography and interactive dynamics.
It also houses a historical collection of Paraguay’s economic past, also displaying historical furniture and equipment from the Ministry of Economy.
They say that the fundamental purpose of this museum is to involve citizens in economic issues, fostering confidence in the work of the MEF and promoting greater acceptance of its policies and regulations, through a better understanding of its objectives.
The museum will seek to convey a positive and hopeful message, using clear, direct and rational language, without technicalities or value judgments, to motivate reflection and analysis among visitors.
Inaugural exhibition “Understanding and valuing Paraguay from its Economy”
The inaugural exhibition, “Understanding and Valuing Paraguay from its Economy,” will be the first step in a series of educational programs, temporary exhibitions and cultural activities that will be carried out with the aim of disseminating economic knowledge and highlighting the work of the MEF.
The museum’s initial collection will include original documents and objects from various departments and depots of the Ministry of Economy. In addition, loans from other state institutions, temporary deposits from other museums, historical reproductions, donations and, in specific cases, one-off acquisitions will be incorporated.
The new museum will fill an important need in the community, as to date there is no space that comprehensively and orderly explains the economic history of Paraguay.
Despite its economic focus, the museum will also serve to fill this historical gap and position itself as a showcase of government transparency and the good performance of the authorities, they explain.
The museological script, which defines the narrative of the museum and the layout of its collection, will follow a logical and historical order to facilitate understanding. The museum tour will begin with a welcome and a brief introduction about its purpose, followed by a presentation of the basic concepts of economics.
The museum will be divided into four main sections: the history of the Paraguayan economy, the current economy of the country, the future prospects of the national economy and a section dedicated to the history and organization of the MEF, its dependencies and main regulations, both historical and current.
Historical documents and objects will be displayed in display cases and other media in an orderly manner, complementing the themes presented. In addition, digital and interactive tools will be used to ensure that visitors retain the information effectively.
