Asuncion, IP Agency.- Judo competitor Gabriela Narváez received her Olympic diploma today for finishing 7th in the overall classification of women’s judo -48 kg.
The athlete made history for Paraguayan Olympic sport by reaching the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympic Games.
Mongolian Baasankhuu Bavuudorj fell there and went on to win the silver medal. The gold medal in the competition went to Natsumi Tsunoda of Japan.
The Olympic diploma is awarded to the top eight finishers in Olympic competitions. In addition to Narváez, the Paraguayan team, by reaching the quarter-finals, also won another Olympic diploma, the third for the country, after the silver medal in football in Athens 2004.
The diploma was presented by authorities of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), president Camilo Pérez López Moreira; the vice president Julio Ferrari; the Secretary General, Juan Carlos Orihuela and the Head of Mission, Larissa Schaerer.
