Everyone was hoping for it, and now it’s a done deal: Oriane Bertone (7th in the West) is in the Olympic combined final! After her second place in bouldering on Tuesday, and with 45.1 points gained in difficulty, the Frenchwoman takes 5th in the combined ranking and continues her quest for an Olympic medal.
While the Frenchwoman falls in the middle of the route, the public understands it well: by taking the lead of the ranking after her passage, and while there are only six climbers left to start, Bertone is assured of finishing in the top 8, synonymous with the final. It’s an explosion at Le Bourget, Bertone will be there on Saturday. A date for history!
“It wasn’t a throwaway run, it wasn’t that bad, but I wanted better and I’ll do better on Saturday. I’m through, that’s the main thing.” – Oriane Bertone
The dream is over for Zélia Avezou (ES Massy), the second French climber in this semi-final. The 20-year-old climber finished the difficulty test and the competition in 14th place.
“It’s less of my strong specialty, but I realize that I’m very lucky to have played in front of such an audience. When I think back on the Games, I’ll see these two years of learning. When I started this adventure, I didn’t have much experience in the seniors and it taught me so much.” – Zelia Avezou
