The Basel-Stadt cantonal police apprehended the wanted 32-year-old man on Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m. during the homicide investigation on Nasenweg. The public prosecutor’s office in Basel announced this around 4 p.m. The arrest was carried out under the orders of the Basel-Stadt public prosecutor’s office. The Swiss man, aged 32, is strongly suspected of killing a 75-year-old woman in the Breite district on Thursday afternoon. An appeal for witnesses was issued on the day of the crime.

The suspect is RM*, born on February 24, 1992, standing 185 cm tall, with a fair complexion, Central European appearance, medium build, medium blonde short hair, and was wearing a beard at the time of the crime.

According to reliable sources, the wanted man is the same individual who murdered a woman in the same residence ten years ago. In September 2015, Basel judges confined the man to an inpatient facility for multiple murders. At that time, the then 23-year-old killed two women and severely injured an 88-year-old during a psychotic episode. His stay in the inpatient facility was extended for an additional five years in 2020. However, since 2017, he has been granted several relaxations, including supervised day outings, as reported. He was engaged in external work during this time.
Wanted individual is in psychiatric care
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel (UPK), according to Stawa. He is considered dangerous. The public prosecutor’s office strongly advises individuals not to approach him and to report any sightings immediately.
