Where is the action? The creator of “Dragon House” responds to the criticism of the final episode of the season

Warning: The following news contains spoilers for the last episode of the second season of “Dragon House”, which aired in Israel yesterday

The second season of “Dragon House” came to an end this week – some would say with a faint answer – and one of the creators of the series, Ryan Condell, held a virtual press conference after the broadcast of the episode to answer some burning questions – literally.

First, after being asked if “Dragon House” will span a total of five seasons, Kundal replied in the negative and clarified that the series will contain four seasons – meaning two more seasons and we’re done. The creator also revealed that the filming of the third season of the fantasy drama from HBO will start soon, and that it too, it seems, will have eight episodes similar to the second season (the first season consisted of ten episodes).

And what about the criticism towards the final episode, which according to quite a few disappointed viewers was quite slow, devoid of significant action and did not include a particularly famous battle scene – “The Battle of the Gullet”, which was postponed to the next season? Well, according to Kundal it’s ultimately all about resource management. “One of the biggest challenges in making television on any scale is that no one has infinite time and resources,” the creator replied when asked where the seminal scene that everyone was looking forward to had gone. “As the director of the series, you are always required to balance between the resources you have and the story you want to tell, and I had to map out what the final goal of the season is. (The decision not to include the fight in the second season) was a combination of factors, and we wanted to rebalance the series so that we have more Three wonderful seasons (after the first season) to tell this story.

“We are trying to give ‘Gullet’, which is probably the second most anticipated action event of ‘Fire and Blood’ (the novel on which “House of the Dragon” is based), the time and place it deserves.

Return of the Dragon Queen

Another question addressed to Kundal dealt with a surprising guest appearance of one of the main characters of “Game of Thrones” – the parent series of “House of the Dragon” of course: it is none other than Daenerys Targaryen, who flashed at the end of the episode in a prophetic vision of Daemon Targaryen (Daenerys was portrayed in the original series by Amelia Clarke, but it is difficult to determine if the actress returned to play her this time as well, since there is no confirmation of this and the character was only seen from behind. Therefore, it is likely that it is a duplication or a computer rendering).

“‘Dragon House’ is a prequel to a famous story, perhaps the greatest television story of all time, and they must be connected,” explained Kundel about the decision to include the iconic dragon queen in the episode. “Since so many years have passed (between the plots of the two series), there is no Really characters from the ‘House of the Dragon’ era who are still alive in the ‘Game of Thrones’ era, and we’re always looking for a way to connect the two series.

“The story of the Targaryen dynasty, which was then at its peak against the background of this Shakespearean tragedy and the death of the dragons… We still don’t know where and how things will develop, but we do know that in the end there will be no dragons left in the world, until they are reborn into Daenerys,” he concluded Kundal, but unfortunately we also definitely know what will happen, when the time comes, to Danny’s fate.
