Royal House expert critical of the Høiby handling: – Doesn’t seem like they have any strategy

– It is not at all positive for the royal house’s reputation. The king has decided that Høiby is an official member of the royal family, so it is the first time a member of the royal family has been charged. That says something about the seriousness, Isaksen tells NTB.

Høiby is charged with bodily harm and damage. He was arrested on Sunday morning. After a summer with a lot of negative attention around parts of the royal family, the royal house expert thinks it is strange that the Palace did not come forward before this became a matter in the national press.

– I think the Palace should have taken control of the situation and released the information, they should have realized that it would get out. It doesn’t seem like they have any strategy.

– Must give them time

Author and Nettavisen’s royal house expert Tove Taalesen does not completely agree with Isaksen’s admonitions that the Castle must come to the fore.

– It is difficult to order them to take control of the situation. These are unpleasant and difficult things that happen in all families. He is also a human being, who has made stupid choices. We have to give them some time, Taalesen believes.

She hopes the royal family can come forward later and be transparent about how this could happen. Taalesen believes this case affects the royal family.

– First and foremost it is a personal crisis for Marius, therefore also a crisis for the family. It takes the focus away from what the royal house can do, namely give attention to important matters. Instead, there will be more focus on the personal drama.

Fear of the people’s support

The arrest of Høiby is also receiving attention outside the Norwegian border. Among other things, the German and Swedish press have mentioned the charge. Isaksen fears that this summer’s negative focus on both Princess Märtha Louise, and now Marius Borg Høiby, will weaken the public’s view of the monarchy.

– People are fed up and don’t understand why the king doesn’t do anything about it. People feel that he is being publicly humiliated by Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett. There is growing dissatisfaction, says Isaksen.

He points out that support for the monarchy has fallen gradually since the king turned 80 in 2017.

– Since then, the royal family has become significantly less visible in the public eye, while the void in the media is filled with noise and controversy. This makes it harder for people to see what the royal family actually does.

– There is no crisis, but there is a challenge with falling support.

Crown Prince Haakon is currently in Paris, where Crown Princess Mette-Marit was also supposed to be, but she has postponed her trip. Nettavisen’s royal house expert believes this is eating away at the family.

– The Crown Prince must once again represent alone, she must of course prioritize the crisis. It is also very sad for the royal couple, who are an aging couple.
