The Eastern Metropolitan Corridor will boost Paraguay’s regional connectivity

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Construction of the bridge over the Monday River, a crucial element of the Eastern Metropolitan Corridor, is progressing at a good pace. The project seeks to boost regional connectivity and economic development in the area, consolidating Paraguay as a key player in Mercosur logistics.

This strategic project will significantly improve connectivity between Presidente Franco, Paraguay and Foz de Yguazú, Brazil, complementing the Integration Bridge.

The Eastern Metropolitan Corridor is a comprehensive set of works that includes road infrastructure in rural and urban areas, in addition to the aforementioned bridge over the Monday River, and is financed with a USD 212 million loan from the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF). It also includes civil works in the primary zone and the ANNP cargo terminal.

The Monday consortium, formed by Constructora Heisecke SA and Construpar SA, is leading the work with a deadline of 18 months. Currently, work is being carried out to access the bridge piers and excavations for the foundations.

Technical characteristics

The new bridge over the Monday River will be 500 meters long and 26.5 meters wide. It will connect the interurban access of Presidente Franco with a road of almost 31 km in the rural area of the CMDE, culminating at km 17.5 of route PY02 in Minga Guazú. The structure will have four roadways of 3.60 meters each; two internal shoulders of 1.30 meters; two external shoulders of 1.50 meters; New Jersey-type barriers and pedestrian and bicycle lanes of 2.50 meters on both sides.
