Paris 2024: Venezuelans’ participation in the Olympic Games on August 7

Venezuelan Yohandri Granado lost his chance to win a bronze medal in taekwondo at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Wednesday, August 7, after being defeated in the first round of the 58-kilogram repechage by Frenchman Cyrian Ravet.

The fight ended in favor of the Frenchman with a score of 2-0 (2-1 and 6-2), with which Granado secured an Olympic diploma for the Venezuelan delegation. The Creole was the only Venezuelan athlete to represent the country in this sporting discipline.

South Korea’s TJ Park took first place, while Azerbaijan’s Gashim Magomedov took the silver medal.

On the other hand, athlete Yoveinny Mota was disqualified in her debut at the 2024 Olympic Games because she illegally knocked down a barrier in the 100-meter hurdles (women). For this reason, Mota will not be able to participate in the repechage.

Venezuelan long-distance runner José Maita registered his first participation in the Olympic events in the 800-meter dash discipline. The athlete managed to place eighth with a time of 1:48:02.

Maita will participate in the repechage of this competition that will take place on Thursday, August 8th from 6:00 am (Venezuela time).

Joselyn Brea’s participation in the 1,500-meter repechage

Likewise, runner Joselyn Brea competed in the repechage of the 1,500 meters flat and placed sixth with a time of 4:05:93. The Carabobo native also placed 15th in the 5,000 meters flat in the final that took place on August 6.

Meanwhile, Cojedeña wrestler Betzabeth Arguello fell to Sweden’s Emma Malmgren in the round of 16 of freestyle wrestling in the 53-kilogram category (female). The dispute ended with a score of 5-3 in favor of the European.

Arguello managed to keep the game tied in the first period with a score of 3-3. However, in the second period the Swede managed to get two points that ended up giving her the victory.

In the quarterfinals, Malmgren was defeated with a score of 10-2 by China’s Pang Qianyu, who dominated from the first period with a partial of 8-0.

Leodán Torrealba also said goodbye to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after finishing 14th in Group B of the men’s triple jump competition. The athlete achieved a mark of 16.18 meters in his first attempt at the jump.

Torrealba failed in his second jump and in his third attempt he managed to jump a distance of 15.44 meters. With this score, the Creole was eliminated from the competition and has no chance of reaching the final of this sporting discipline.

Venezuelan weightlifter Katherine Echandía finished ninth in the 49-kilogram women’s weightlifting category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Echandía managed to lift 105 kilograms on his first attempt, but was unable to lift the 107 and 109 kilograms, so he was unable to advance in the competition.
