Luis Larrazábal did not pass the preliminary round of a horse riding test (+Photos)

Venezuelan Luis Larrazabal was unlucky in the individual jumping event, which is part of the equestrian calendar, because he did not make it past the first round.

The event, one of the most elegant of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was held at the Château de Versailles, a tourist destination par excellence in France.

At the event, which brought together the 74 best riders in the world, Larrazábal finished 63rd after completing the obstacle course in a time of 74 seconds and 19 hundredths (79.19). He rode the Condara horse and committed 20 penalties.

Winner

The winner of the preliminary phase, in which the occupants of the first 30 places sealed their passports for the Grand Final, was the Frenchman Julien Epaillard, who mounted Dubai Du Cedre and completed the course in 73.07 without registering any penalties.

Ireland’s Shane Sweetnam, riding James Cann Cruz, stopped the clocks in 73.35 without suffering any penalties and finished second.

Third place went to Sweetnam’s fellow countryman Daniel Coyle, who took the reins of Legacy and completed the circuit in 73.64 without any faults.

Harry Smulders (Netherlands), Martin Fuchs (Switzerland), Steve Guedart (Switzerland), Henrik Eckermann (Sweden), Emanuele Camili (Italy), Kim Emmen (Netherlands), Abdulrahman Alrhaji (Saudi Arabia), Harry Charles (Great Britain), Scott Brash (Great Britain), Stephan de Freitas (Brazil), Victoria Gulliksen (Norway), Gilles Thomas (Belgium), Karl Cooke (USA), Rodrigo Pesoa (Brazil), Andrés Azcárraga (Mexico), Ramzy Al Duhamy (Saudi Arabia) and Takashi Haase (Japan) moved up from fourth to twentieth place in succession and advanced to the next round.

The participants who finished from 21st to 30th place also did so. They were Omar Almarzooki (United Arab Emirates), Maikel van der Vleuten (Netherlands), Christian Cucuk (Germany), Simon Delestre (France), Max Kuehener (Austria), Laura Kraut (USA), Ben Maher (Great Britain), José Larocca (Argentina) and Philipp Wishaput (Germany).

The decisive phase of the equestrian competition will get underway on Tuesday at the same venue in France.
