Unsuccessful performance of Polish hammer throwers. Fajdek and Nowicki off the Olympic podium

Another medal hope is gone. Polish representatives in the hammer throw – Paweł Fajdek and Wojciech Nowicki – found themselves outside the Olympic podium.

Paweł Fajdek took fifth place and Wojciech Nowicki was seventh in the Olympic hammer throw competition in Paris. The winner was Canadian Ethan Katzberg ahead of Hungarian Bence Halasz and Ukrainian Mykhailo Kochan.

Katzberg threw 84.12 in the first series and gained a huge advantage over his rivals. He was followed by Halasz – 79.96 and Kochan – 79.39. Just behind the podium was the Norwegian Eivind Henriksen – 79.18.

Fajdek scored 78.80 in the fourth series. The Poles were separated by American Rudy Winkler – 77.92. Nowicki threw 77.42 at the beginning of the competition and was unable to improve later.

Three years ago, Nowicki won gold and Fajdek bronze at the Tokyo Games. Nowicki also has a bronze Olympic medal from Rio de Janeiro.
