Official: Kevin Csoboth continues in St. Gallen

Újpest sold the striker of the national team.

The purple and white club on the Internet announced, that Kevin Csoboth will be a player from St. Gallen, Switzerland. The forward made 65 appearances for the team and scored 13 goals, but his most memorable goal for the national team came against Scotland at the summer European Championship.

“Kevin’s departure was not about money, it was a personal decision. He felt that he had to change in order to be able to continue his career at an even higher level, and we, keeping in mind the interests of Hungarian football and the Hungarian national team, decided not to put any obstacles in the way of his departure. There was a serious offer for Kevin more than a year ago, but instead of an outstanding salary and a career abroad, he decided to stay and help the club fight to stay. We thank him for this and everything else he did for Újpest! It is a great pride that after 60 years and Ferenc Bene, the entire country celebrated a goal scorer from Újpest again at a European Championship. We hope that the farewell is not final and we will see Csoboth Kevin in purple and white again. Now, however, we can do nothing but wish him the best of luck in achieving all that he is destined to achieve in football!” – said the president of Újpest FC, Péter Ratatics.

“I would like to thank the management of Újpest FC for their correct attitude regarding my transfer. I made this decision with a heavy heart, since I arrived almost as a child, and now I am leaving as a national team player. Still, I’m calm because I think it’s impossible for the club to end up in a situation like it was in when I turned down a serious offer and stayed to help. I would also like to thank the fans for giving me their trust even with only five minutes of NBI routine and supporting me in making my mark in the league and even in the national team. You will remain in my heart forever, I will happily think back on the years I spent here. Our journey together has now come to an end, but I hope I can wear the Újpest jersey again!” – with these words Kevin Csoboth said goodbye to Újpest.

St. Gallen is currently in 4th place in the Swiss league and will play against the Polish Slask Wroclaw in the Conference League. The green and whites on their website was announcedthat the Hungarian striker was contracted for four years. According to press reports, St. Gallen paid more than one million euros for the attacker.
