The EU does not recognize Maduro’s victory in Venezuela

– The election result cannot be recognized. Any attempt to delay the full release of the official transcripts of the vote only casts further doubt on its credibility, the statement said.

According to the law, the printouts from the electronic voting machines must be made public, but the authorities have not done so. The election was held on 28 July.

According to Venezuela’s electoral commission, Maduro received 6.4 million votes and opposition candidate Edmundo González 5.3 million votes.

The AP news agency reviewed 24,000 transcripts representing 79 percent of the voting machines and found that González received 6.89 million votes, while Maduro received 3.13 million.

The United States, Argentina and a number of other Latin American countries, including Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica and Uruguay, have already recognized González as Venezuela’s legitimate president, and several countries in Latin America have severed diplomatic ties with Venezuela.

The G7 foreign ministers have expressed concern, and seven EU countries, including Italy, France, Germany and Spain, demanded on Sunday that Venezuela must publish the transcripts from the election. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide (Ap) demanded the same on Friday, saying that he is deeply concerned about the situation.

Maduro, on the other hand, has received support from Russia, China, Nicaragua, Honduras and Bolivia.
