Indonesian rock climbing team coach Hendra Basir said his four athletes are focusing on recovery before competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics at Le Bourget Climbing Venue, Paris, today, Monday (5/8) and Tuesday (6/8).

The four athletes will compete in the speed category. They are Veddriq Leonardo and Rahmad Adi Mulyono for the men’s category and Rajiah Salsabillah and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi in the women’s category.

According to Hendra, the four athletes needed time to physically recover after several training sessions around the venue.

“Because we have three consecutive training sessions, we need more than 32 hours of recovery, so we focus on rest,” said Hendra, Sunday (4/8).

The women’s speed will be played on Monday (5/8) afternoon local time, while the men’s speed will be competed on Tuesday (6/8) afternoon Paris time.

According to Hendra, the athletes have been resting since yesterday after undergoing the official training schedule provided by the committee.

He added that all athletes are fit and have adapted to the weather and everything related to the needs of the match. He is optimistic that his four athletes will achieve maximum results.

The effects of training several times since arriving in Paris, last Sunday (28/7), added Hendra, have provided benefits to athletes so that their physical and mental health
their mentality is ready for battle.

The participation of the four Indonesian rock climbing athletes was a historic moment for the first time that the speed rock climbing sport was competed in the Olympics and Indonesia immediately filled four full quotas for that sport.
