- The application will be available for migrants who are in the states of Chiapas and Tabasco
U.S. immigration authorities will expand access to the CBP One mobile app to southern Mexico. This app allows migrants to request an appointment to present their asylum cases at the border, so they do not have to do so irregularly.
The app will be available to migrants in the states of Chiapas and Tabasco, allowing them to schedule appointments without having to travel to the north of the country, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement.
The agency did not give a precise date for when access would be permitted, but said it would be “soon.”
They are working on adjusting immigration policies
U.S. officials said they are in “constant communication” with the Mexican government and “working together” to adjust policies and practices in response to recent migration trends and security needs.
Expanding access to the app is part of efforts by President Joe Biden’s administration to reduce irregular migrant crossings at the southwestern border, which has seen a decline in apprehensions since asylum restrictions were put in place last July.
Currently, migrants must be physically located in central or northern Mexico to apply or schedule an appointment through CBP One, which offers an average of 1,500 appointments each day.
CBP reminded that migrants located in those sectors – northern and central Mexico – will continue to have the ability to schedule appointments to appear at the eight ports of entry along the U.S.-Mexico border: Brownsville, El Paso, Eagle Pass, Hidalgo and Laredo in Texas; Calexico and San Ysidro in California; and Nogales in Arizona.
“Scheduling appointments at CBP One provides a safe, orderly, and humane process for foreign nationals to access ports of entry rather than attempting to enter the United States irregularly,” the agency said.
Once they have submitted their application, foreigners will receive a notification confirming their appointments.
How does the CPB One app work?
Applicants must create a user account with an email address and password on the Login.gov website. The application will offer the option of obtaining the form in Spanish or English.
Once your profile is created, you must return to the CBP One app and log in. You must then select the “Traveler” option.
Then you must select “Advance Travel Authorization”.
The applicant must then provide personal and biographical information. From then on, the instructions sent by email must be followed.
If an appointment is made, the person will receive a confirmation email with the steps to follow.
