The Japan Foundation (JF) has launched JFF Theater, a streaming website offering Japanese films and video content with multilingual subtitles. (Japan Foundation)

THE Japan Foundation (JF) launched the JFF Theater website, which presents various Japanese films and other video works with subtitles in various languages, and can be accessed anytime and anywhere.

The Japan Foundation sees a very high interest in watching Japanese films and content internationally. This is based on the results of the online film screening project that the Japan Foundation has held for the past few years.

More than 650,000 viewers from 130 countries have participated in the project. Through JFF Theater, JF hopes to introduce Japanese films and video content to a wider audience.

With the slogan “Moved, Touched, Inspired”, JFF Theater aims to build bridges between Japan and the rest of the world, thereby deepening mutual understanding and fostering cultural exchange.

The concept offered by JFF Theater

  • Continuous screening: A variety of new films will appear periodically, so that viewers can always enjoy new films.
  • Wide selection of works: Presenting a variety of entertainment films, indie films, TV drama series, and other Japanese cultural video content
  • Broadcast worldwide: Content can be enjoyed by people all over the world.

  • No cost: Viewers can enjoy the films shown for free just by registering to create an account.
  • Multilingual: Website and subtitles are available in multiple languages.

As an opening, the Japan Foundation has selected five films to be screened during a certain period, divided into three categories:
