A serious incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Las Peñas sector, on the Salgar – El Barroso road, when a rock slide fell on a taxi, resulting in the death of the driver.
According to reports from the Suroeste group in real time, the accident took place around 4 p.m.
Francisco Luis Vélez Restrepo, 51, was driving the vehicle when several rocks broke loose from a landslide and crushed the taxi. The driver died instantly.

Also on board the taxi were an elderly woman and her 3-year-old grandson, who were immediately taken to the local hospital.
Later, due to the severity of his injuries, the minor was sent to La Merced Hospital in Ciudad Bolívar.
The Salgar Fire Department inspected the scene and removed Vélez Restrepo’s body, which was taken to the morgue. In addition, the fire department and the judicial police were present to assess the affected area and carry out the relevant procedures.
The accident left the vehicle completely destroyed. Witnesses to the incident said that the victim, known in the community as “Kiko”, was a well-liked driver in the area.
For August 5, the authorities of Antioquia have declared an alert in 42 municipalities, with 10 on red alert and 15 on yellow alert. The municipality of Urrao has been identified as the one with the highest risk in the southwest of Antioquia.
IDEAM has forecast rain in several regions, including Antioquia, Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Nariño, and other areas of the country, which could increase the risk of new landslides in the coming days.
