SENIOR Jordanian and Luxembourg officials have urged an immediate, permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an immediate de-escalation of regional tensions.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bettel made the call at a joint press conference following their meeting in Amman, Jordan.

“Stop the Israeli aggression, end the humanitarian disaster, and stop the escalation of the disaster. We hold Israel fully responsible,” Safadi was quoted as saying by Xinhua on Friday (2/8).

Safadi condemned the assassination of Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh and stated that it would threaten the expansion of the regional war and have negative impacts on regional and international peace and security.

He also condemned Israel’s attacks on Lebanon and called for immediate and concrete action from the international community and the UN Security Council.

Bettel said Luxembourg is committed to playing its part in ending the war in Gaza. Bettel also said Luxembourg will increase its aid and support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

“Committed to ending the war in Gaza, achieving a ceasefire, and implementing the two-state solution,” Bettel said.

“We believe in the two-state solution as a way to resolve the conflict in the region,” he added. (Z-2)
