ELGA: Compensation payment packages are coming before Christmas – 2024-08-05 20:34:56

Today, Thursday, December 21, EL.GA.A. will pay new advances of 26.2 million euros to the farmers of the P.E. Trikala, Larissa, Karditsa, Magnesia, Fthiotida, Boeotia and Evia, whose vegetable production crops were affected by the extreme weather phenomena “Daniel” and “Elias”.

These producers did not receive advances for their crops during the Agency’s previous payment.

EL.GA.A. is steadily processing the more than 30,000 damage declarations submitted by the affected producers and planning the gradual compilation of findings to finalize the compensations, aiming at the beginning of the year and by the end of the 1st half of 2024, to complete their payment at 100% of their value. To date, as compensation advances, through ELGA, have been paid:

107.5 million euros to 24,000 farmers and 16.5 million euros to 2,400 livestock breeders.

Together with today’s payments, the amounts of advances amount to 150.2 million euros.

With information from protothema, it is recalled that the government has strengthened the ELGA to cover the damages from the disaster, with 260 million euros. Also, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has ensured the compensation of 15.8 million euros from the Agricultural Reserve of 2023, for producers who did not have a legal obligation to be insured with ELGA (poultry farmers, pig farmers, producers of aromatic plants).

According to a relevant press release, today’s payment is made after the cooperation of the Minister of Rural Development and Food Lefteris Avgenakis and the president of ELGA, Andreas Lykourentzos, who, consistent with their commitments towards the affected farmers of Thessaly, announced the payment of the remaining advances one day earlier than originally announced.

As the minister stated:

“Consistent with our commitments, we continue to pay compensation to farmers affected by the recent droughts. We are and will be on the side of our farmers, implementing the mandate of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to support the affected and accelerate the effort to regenerate the primary sector in Thessaly. We are determined to turn the tragedy into an opportunity and give life to the region and hope to those affected,” the press release concludes.
