Robeilys Peinado will compete in the women’s pole vault at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Monday and hopes to “enjoy the experience” because she believes that participating is a great privilege.

The reason? The world’s best athletes will be present at her athletics event at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. She knows she is part of the elite, which is why she wants to put in a good performance to fight for medals.

“Now I want to enjoy it to the fullest,” said the 26-year-old from Caracas, who will participate for the second time in the great universal event, after participating in Tokyo 2020, which took place in 2021 following delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pole vaulter’s achievements

Peinado will be present at the French arena with the benefit of having won a bronze medal at the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, something she achieved after being unable to participate in Rio 2016 due to an injury suffered during training.

At Tokyo 2020, the event that marked her grand return to top-level competitions, she did not make it onto the podium, but she did win an Olympic diploma by tying Greek Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou, Cuban Yarisley Silva, Chinese Huiqin Xu and Belarusian Iryna Zhuk in eighth place. They all recorded a mark of 4.50 metres (m).

Now, with more experience and free of physical problems, he hopes to be in the discussion for the awards, something he sees as feasible because he already knows how to face this type of “orbital meetings.”

“When I went to Rio, I did it with a lot of pressure. It was like saying ‘it’s my first Olympic Games, I don’t know what’s going to happen’ and the accident happened. From that point on, I thought that ‘I can’t take everything so personally’. For Tokyo, I was more focused and concentrated on what I was doing. I came with discomfort in a complicated year due to the coronavirus pandemic and it was not what I imagined. Now, in my third Olympics, I want to enjoy it to the fullest, live the whole experience. I want to have a nice memory,” added Peinado, who spoke with Aloys Marín, a member of the press department of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV).

Pre-fair work

The native of Ciego de Avila, one of 33 national representatives on Parisian soil and who some sports writers consider one of the great hopes of Venezuela, practiced her exit a lot, in order to try to be in the discussion for the awards.

The young woman, born on November 26, 1997, who achieved the minimum mark (14.73 m) for World Athletics to grant her a place in Paris 2024, believes that if she manages to take off in an ideal way in each attempt, she could start dreaming of winning an award.

“We are basically working on that: clear heights. I tried to start with a bit more elevation (in training sessions), but it was a bit complicated. Then (in national competitions), I was able to stay calm and I did the job, which was to improve my personal bests and pass cleanly,” added Peinado, who is fully confident of having a good performance in Saint-Denis.

“I am currently happy and calm. I know I can work well and that I am already at 100%. We are going to try to do things in the best way possible,” she concluded.
