Aerosmith Cancels Farewell Tour Due to Steven Tyler’s Health

Aerosmith have announced their retirement after realizing that their lead singer, Steven Tyler, will not be able to recover from his vocal injury.

Aerosmith had previously postponed their planned farewell tour after Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage and a fractured larynx during a September 2023 concert. Although the band announced they were rescheduling those dates from September 2024, those plans were canceled and the band decided that no further touring was an option.

In a statement released Friday afternoon (August 2), Aerosmith said: “We’ve been honored to have our music be a part of your lives. In every club, on every major tour, and in moments both grand and intimate, you’ve given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”

“We have always wanted to wow you at our shows. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months working tirelessly to regain the voice he had before his injury. We have watched him struggle despite having the best medical team by his side. Unfortunately, it is clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made the heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision as a group of friends to retire from the stage.”

Aerosmith’s “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour” was scheduled for September 2023, but the band was only able to play three shows before Steven Tyler injured his vocal cords.

In their 50-plus year career, Aerosmith have established themselves as one of the greatest rock bands of all time and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. They have released 15 albums, the most recent of which is Music From Another Dimension ! in 2012. Their best-known songs include iconic tracks like “Dream On,” “Walk This Way,” and “Sweet Emotion,” which are still heard everywhere today.
