Epidemic: Crete’s brides-to-be are anxious – They are asking for documents for the wedding table – 2024-08-05 16:12:58

Marriages with obstacles in the first place in Crete, due to the cessation of movements of sheep and goats to stop the spread of the plague of small ruminants.

“Ofto” as well as boiled meat is one of the usual ways of cooking in Crete. Ofto is especially popular in mountain villages, something that also happened a few days ago in Anogeia, where more than 2,500 people gathered for a wedding.

However, while the plague hangs like a sword of Damocles, the Cretan centers have informed young couples that any meat they bring to the store for weddings should have certificates and documents from the slaughterhouses, so that they do not bear the responsibility.

The problem is huge because after the 16th of August the traditional weddings start in Crete and already today the second herd is going to be slaughtered in Asterousia of Heraklion, where the disease had manifested itself.

In any case, if something does not change, weddings will probably have a different image in Crete and from the well-known wedding pilaf, as those in the know say, we will go to pilaf with…chicken, since due to the lack of transportation, the goats and sheep in the area are not enough to cover the large demand for weddings, which take place in the summer months in Crete.
