For the first time, five “Purple bins” for recycling clothes and shoes, in collaboration with RECYCOM.
These are purple bins, in which citizens will be able to leave clothes, pairs of shoes, linens and accessories (bags, belts, etc.) that they no longer use, which will later be recycled.
How the “Purple Bins” are used:
– Place clean clothes, shoes or other textile products in a clean bag.
– Push the handle up and make sure the bag is inside the bin.
-After sorting, the best clothes are offered free of charge to socially vulnerable groups.
In addition, clothing is available to meet basic needs in emergency situations such as natural disasters. The remaining percentage is extracted for reuse.
Unsuitable clothes and other items are recycled to create cleaning clothes, stuffing, insulation and other material.
The five “Purple bins” were already placed in our Municipality, in the following places:
1) the Church of Agios Panteleimon in Zacharo,
2) outside the Zacharos Health Center,
3) in Nea Figalia, Vagena area,
4) in Kakovatou Square,
5) at the Community Office of Giannitsochori.
The Mayor of Zacharos, Konstantinos Mitropoulos, stated this: “Since the first day of assuming our duties, we have focused on taking actions of our Municipality, in terms of recycling. The burden on the natural environment from human intervention is a primary issue. It is necessary to change our habits, gradually, in order to protect the environment and, at the same time, save money that can be used for more public benefit projects. We are still at the beginning of the journey. We plan reciprocating recycling actions, green spots and every possibility we can provide in our area, in order to deliver a better future to citizens and the environment.
We also continue and upgrade the collection of plastic and paper. Here I want to refer to the need to reduce the volume of waste by the correct use of garbage in the bins and not by throwing grass, grass etc. in them. “Purple bins” are another necessary step for a modern and clean Municipality”.
