The German Foreign Ministry on Friday called on Venezuelan authorities to end the violence that has been seen during opposition protests following the presidential election in the South American country.

In a message posted on its social media account X, the ministry headed by environmentalist policymaker Annalena Baerbock called on “the Venezuelan authorities to end violence against peaceful protesters and intimidation of the opposition, and to respect human rights in Venezuela.”

The message was accompanied by a statement dated Wednesday from the G7 foreign ministers in which Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Japan and the United States, together with the European Union, expressed “their solidarity with the people of Venezuela,” who exercised their right to vote in large numbers last Sunday, and called for the publication of the election results.

In this text, the G7 countries and the EU expressed their “maximum support in the country for a peaceful, democratic and Venezuelan-led solution.

In a second bulletin issued today, the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela ratified the re-election of Nicolás Maduro in the elections with 51.95% of the votes, compared to 43.18% of support obtained by the main opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, with 96.87% of the votes counted, which the institution has not published to date.

The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which includes González and opposition leader María Corina Machado, published this week on a website “81%” of the electoral records that show, according to the anti-Chavez movement, that its candidate won the elections by a wide margin, a result recognized by countries such as Argentina, the United States and Peru.
