For the prime minister, this reinforcement with persons known in the party apparatus is the bet for the restoration of the “factory settings” concerning the relations between the party and the government and constitute the second message to the Parliamentary Group of the ND, after that of the withdrawal of Mrs. Fundedakis from the presidency of the National Assisted Reproduction Committee.
The fact that Kyriakos Mitsotakis decided to “test” members of the party apparatus by including them in the government is the first response to the complaints not only of “blue” actors and ministers who installed people they can work with, but also a move to decentralize what it was called the “staff state”.
The prime minister is testing a new model that leaves more room for ministers to exercise policy, but at the same time raises the bar for Maximos’ demands, as they will no longer have the… alibi to point to the side of the prime minister’s associates for their decisions. Decentralization is also helped by the new building structure of Maximos, which will soon enter a building “reconstruction” phase, which means the relocation of people to the building rented by the Parliament in the center of Athens.
The exemplary symmetrical corner Bodosaki Mansion on 20 Amalia Avenue and 5 Souri Avenue is a historical building of Athens, apart from the services of the Parliament that will be moved, it will also acquire tenants from the Maximou Mansion. Apart from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis who will have an office on the sixth floor with a view of Lycabettus, the Parliament, the National Garden, Kallimarmaro, the Pillars of Olympian Zeus and the Acropolis.
The Minister of State is expected to be installed one floor below Akis Schertsos, with a group of his associates. The General Secretariat of the Prime Minister will also be moved to the Bodosaki Building, as well as other services of the Maximos Building which are installed – among others – in the Parliament Building.
And because every… move changes the psychology, the prime minister has decided to make his program and plans front-loading. Of course, before that, it will be interesting to see where the ball will … sit in energy, as the Prime Minister constantly repeats, sending the message to the “players” of energy, that he will not leave consumers unprotected in speculative games.
For Kyriakos Mitsotakis, this will be the first big test, as he wants to prove to the citizens that even on the “field” he is with the many and not the few.
Suggestions for TIF
The first major stop in this government restart is the Thessaloniki International Fair. And because it is expected that in the first week of September the heart of the government will beat in Thessaloniki due to TIF, in which the honored country will be Germany, Kyriakos Mitsotakis has asked his colleagues and the ministers returning from their mini vacations to have envelopes with proposals and issues which should be ready to be announced by him to the TIF. In this context, the redesign of the priorities of the ministries was announced by Akis Schertsos in the last Ministerial Council before the holidays.
Toward a new narrative
The prime minister aims to take advantage of the political time given by the internal party processes to both SYRIZA and PASOK. These thirty days of September will be for Kyriakos Mitsotakis the “gift” of the bad result of the European elections. In essence, he will have the political lead to implement policies and create the new narrative, while the opposition will one way or another become introverted. The prime minister will have time to go through things, as he knows that the scene will change from the Autumn and very likely, he will have what he has asked for: an opposition.
