West Bank: Number of Palestinian detainees rises to 9,920 since October 7

Palestine – The number of Palestinian detainees in the West Bank has risen to more than 9,920 people, since the Israeli army expanded its operations in the West Bank coinciding with the start of its war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, by arresting 30 Palestinians on Friday and Saturday.

The Prisoners Affairs Authority (governmental) and the Palestinian Prisoners Club (civil society) said in a joint statement that “the number of arrests after October 7th has reached more than 9,920.”

The founders stated that “the Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 30 citizens from the West Bank yesterday, Friday, and Saturday morning, including two journalists, in addition to children and former prisoners.”

According to the statement, the arrests were distributed across the governorates of Jenin, Nablus, Tubas, and Tulkarm (north), Ramallah and Jerusalem (center), Bethlehem and Hebron (south), and were accompanied by “attacks and threats against the detainees and their families, in addition to the vandalism and destruction of citizens’ homes.”

Coinciding with Israel’s devastating war on Gaza, settlers expanded their attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, while the army expanded its operations, killing 600 Palestinians, including 144 children, in addition to 5,400 wounded, according to official Palestinian sources.

With American support, Israel waged a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 130,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.

In contempt of the international community, Tel Aviv continues the war, ignoring the UN Security Council resolution to stop it immediately, and the International Court of Justice’s orders to take measures to prevent acts of genocide and to improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
