There is shock in the community of the municipality Carmen del Darién, Chocó, following the brutal abuse and murder of an 11-year-old girl identified as Lizeth Paola Peralta. The events occurred on the morning of August 1, when the young girl was on her way to school along the Quebrada Montería pathway. Apparently, the minor was approached by an individual on her way to her educational institution. She was abused, tortured, and murdered. The body was found on a path and was taken to Forensic Medicine, where signs of violence were confirmed.

“We reject any form of violence with the utmost firmness, especially when it threatens the lives of our children. We demand justice and that this case does not go unpunished. I urge the competent authorities to act swiftly and decisively to clarify the facts and punish those responsible,” expressed the mayor of Carmen del Darién, Dawinson Valoyes.

According to the account of the local leader, young Lizeth Paola was attacked with a bladed weapon by an individual that the authorities are seeking to hold accountable for this crime. The young girl dreamt of studying to become a great lawyer so she could buy a house for her family; however, once again, violence and insecurity have extinguished the dreams of a minor in Colombia.

The parents of students from the Rural School where Lizeth Paola studied reported the risks that students face when attending classes. There is no school transport; they have to travel distances of over 7 kilometers and must cross paths and rivers to reach the classrooms.

Colonel William Zubieta, commander of the Urabá Police, assured Noticias Caracol that they are already gathering all evidence to identify and capture the perpetrator of this crime that mourns an entire region.
