Asif Bashir works as a database supervisor at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar and went for the Hajj after coming first in the Hajj Volunteers Test.
He said: ‘The rest of the Pakistani team, including me, had responsibilities in other places including Mini and during the Hajj season it was very hot.’
Some of the pilgrims died due to the heat and exhaustion, but we saved the lives of the pilgrims as much as possible and took them to the hospital.
According to Asif Bashir: ‘When the pilgrims returned from Mina, they became ill due to the intense heat on the way. Meanwhile, some died but we carried about 26 pilgrims on our shoulders and took them to the hospital.
“Of these 26 (pilgrims), 17 were Indian pilgrims whose lives we saved and after medical treatment at the hospital they became normal.”
Asif Bashir said that he helped everyone regardless of race and color whether they were Pakistanis or Indians. ‘We did all this as our duty for the pleasure of Allah.’
According to the Saudi Hajj authorities, 1,300 pilgrims died during this year’s Hajj season due to extreme heat and heat waves, of which 83 percent went to perform Hajj illegally.
The Saudi Hajj authorities provided medical aid to the heat wave victims and also shifted some of them to hospitals by air ambulance.
Asif Bashir said that the situation was such that there were ambulances, but due to the rush, we carried some pilgrims to the hospital by ourselves or on wheelchairs.
Encouragement of Indian Govt
Asif Bashir’s services were appreciated by the Indian government and the Indian Embassy in Jeddah also delivered a letter to him written by the Minister of Minority Affairs of India Kiran Rejiju.

According to Asif Bashir, India has also nominated him for the Jeevan Raksha Padak Award for these services.

According to Asif Bashir, during the rescue, ‘when we took an Indian woman to the hospital and returned to our point, there was a bag lying there. The woman’s passport, insulin, Hajj card and around 10 lakh rupees were in the bag.
According to the documents, the bag belonged to a woman from Srinagar.
‘I tried to contact the Indian Embassy in Jeddah but the lady could not be traced so I kept the bag with me, I wish to deliver the bag to the lady myself.’
