The president of Venezuela Nicolas Madurosaid at a press conference on Friday that it could grant oil and gas exploitation rights to the BRICS countries.
“If these people from the north and their partners around the world make the mistake of their lives, then those oil blocks and those gas blocks that were already signed will go to our allies in the BRICS,” said the Venezuelan president.
These statements were made by Maduro, who was re-elected in the presidential elections of July 28 according to official data from the National Electoral Council.
Oil and gas exploitation in the BRICS
The head of state recalled that the “largest investments” in oil and gas in Venezuela come from the BRICS, while highlighting that this bloc has a “portfolio of opportunities” that is attractive for the Caribbean nation.
According to Maduro, “the world no longer depends on the ruling elite in Washington.” “There is another world and that world is open with all its political, diplomatic, cultural, economic, financial, commercial, and spiritual possibilities. It is open to Venezuela,” he declared, adding that Caracas is “open to the world.”
Initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, the BRICS bloc saw its membership increase on 1 January when it was joined by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
