The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced the launch of the Improvement of Agricultural Extension Efficiency Programme, which aims to improve the skills of extension workers, develop their professional capabilities, as well as their knowledge in the field of communication and communications, and transfer technology and modern technologies to ensure maximum and increased yields .

The program includes specialized training courses covering areas such as soil and irrigation, crop and vegetable production, fruit production, prevention, agricultural pest control, bees and honey production, in addition to lectures and workshops to ensure competency and technical skills among trainees. The program also includes field courses to provide opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge, develop communication skills and increase confidence in a real practical context.

Dr. Muhammad Salman Al Hammadi, Assistant Undersecretary for Food Diversity Sector at the Ministry, said that the program aims to develop a dedicated path for each agricultural extension officer to cover all the main specialties of the sector. Through this program, we Seeks to build national capacity and capacity in agricultural extension, helping to improve local production and support the transformation of national food systems into more sustainable ones.

He noted that the program is planned to be implemented in collaboration with partners, research centers and international think tanks.

The Department of Climate Change and Environment’s efforts include the development of an annual agricultural extension program to track and support farmers to improve crop productivity and protect them from pests, based on setting tree service operations, seasons and timing of agricultural operations for each region surface.

The program focuses on palm tree crops, fruits, vegetables, fodder, bees and honey production, in addition to operations such as irrigation, fertilization and land reclamation, in addition to the preparation and development of technical reports and farm extension visit reports, including data. Recommend and record results to ensure performance improves and meets farmer needs.

Hammadi stressed that the ministry seeks to strengthen communication between extension workers and farmers through the annual agricultural extension program and establish a schedule of regular visits to farms, noting that a plan for regular meetings with farmers will be launched to discuss the problems faced by farmers. The most important challenges and difficulties are to ensure increased and maximized yields and setting precise standards and targets to improve the quality and efficiency of agricultural extension programs and help increase farmer satisfaction.
