UNRWA announced this evening that it will close its headquarters in East Jerusalem after “Israeli extremists” “set fire” to outdoor spaces around the compound, the head of the UN agency for Palestine refugees said.

“Israelis twice set fire to the perimeter of the UNRWA headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem” while “members of UNRWA staff and other UN agencies were inside the compound,” Lazzarini said, clarifying that “he took the decision to close the offices until adequate security is restored’.

He denounced a “second heinous incident in less than a week”, which he said was carried out by “extremists” and from which “the lives of UN workers were seriously endangered”.
