The Labor Party will appeal the verdict in the “MG Baltic” case, and will request a postponement of the payment of the fine

The Labor Party was fined for bribery and influence peddling.

“Unequivocally – we will complain, the complaint is left to me,” lawyer V. Sviderskis told BNS on Thursday.

According to him, it will be requested to annul the judgment of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal and to leave valid the judgment of the Vilnius District Court, which completely acquitted the party last year.

At that time, the Vilnius District Court will be asked to postpone the payment of the fine.

“After the (payment of the fine – BNS) is postponed, the legal entity can do whatever it likes at its own discretion. For example, if they postpone it for two years, they can pay monthly in two years”, V. Sviderskis told BNS.

According to him, according to court practice, the payment of the fine can last up to three years.

Last week, the Court of Appeal changed the decision of the first instance court and convicted all the accused in this criminal case.

The verdict came into effect immediately. “MG Grupė” paid the 1.1 million allocated to it. More than 240,000 were confiscated from Eligius Masiulis and handed over to the state. euros recognized as a bribe.

Often, in various criminal cases, when passing judgments, the courts also indicate the time period in which the fine must be paid. The payment of the fines imposed in the “MG Group” case was not arranged for any of the convicts.

The lawyer says that paying a fine of this size would probably be a big burden for any Lithuanian party, because parties have very limited opportunities to both receive and spend funds.

The board of the ruling Liberal Movement also decided to appeal the verdict to the Supreme Court of Lithuania this week. The party was convicted of bribery, influence peddling and abuse, and also intends to apply to the court to extend the deadline for paying the fine.

Last week, the Lithuanian Court of Appeal reversed the decision of the first instance court and found all the defendants in the case guilty.

R. Kurlianskis, the former vice president of the concern, was sentenced to imprisonment for six years and more than 18.8 thousand. EUR fine, as well as his right to hold managerial positions in the public and private sectors, public information means defined by the law, has been deprived of him for five years.

The representative of the Labor Party in the Seimas, Vytautas Gapšys, was found guilty of influence peddling and bribery, he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison, and for five years he was deprived of the right to be elected or appointed to all positions elected or appointed by state or municipal institutions and institutions, companies, non-governmental organizations.

The former chairman of the Liberal Movement, E. Masiulis, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison.

According to the court, the concern “MG Baltic” (now “MG Grupė”), which operated through R. Kurlianskis, and Eligijus Masiulis, Šarūnas Gustainis and Gintaras Steponavičius, who represented the Liberal Movement, and Vytautas Gapšis, who represented the Labor Party, “were linked by the usual political and business connections that go beyond the limits of communication, that is, corrupt.

The convicts were brought to the Kaunas prison on Friday, and later they are expected to be distributed to specific places of execution of the sentence.
